Coastal Ecosystem Biogeochemistry Lab

The University of Southern Mississippi

Welcome to the Coastal Ecosystem Biogeochemistry Lab!

We are part of the School of Ocean Science and Engineering, Division of Coastal Sciences, at the University of Southern Mississippi. Our lab is based at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, USA.

We employ a variety of field and laboratory methods, along with an interdisciplinary approach, to better understand the transport and transformation of carbon, nutrients, and trace metals across the river–wetland–estuary–coastal ocean continuum and the atmosphere.

Research in the Coastal Ecosystem Biogeochemistry Lab focuses on:

  1. Vertical and lateral carbon fluxes in coastal ecosystems, including marshes, estuaries, coastal rivers, and the coastal ocean.

  2. Biogeochemical processes in coastal ecosystems.

  3. Nutrient and trace metal cycling in coastal ecosystems.
